President Bill Clinton and Linda Stender Rally New Jerseyans for Change

7th District Residents Ready for New Direction After Eight Years of George Bush

November 1, 2008

CRANFORD – Today at a boisterous rally at Union County College attended by over 1,500 charged up New Jerseyans, President Clinton, Governor Corzine, and Democratic members of the state’s congressional delegation praised Linda Stender as an exceptionally qualified candidate who was urgently needed in Congress to advance Barack Obama’s agenda for change.

“It’s been thirty years since there’s been a Democratic woman elected from New Jersey. It’s time you did that again on November 4th,” President Clinton said. The president then attacked the failed Republican ideology that had been exposed over the past eight years and has now left the country in an economic mess: “Swing voters now know this is about more than just McCain vs Obama. They’ve seen what happens when a 30-year extreme philosophy gets exposed for what it is. Now that we’ve seen it, in 2006, we said no thank you! In 2008, with now the financial crisis, we need to scream no thank you!”

Clinton highlighted Stender’s leadership on global warming, childhood obesity and stem cell research as reasons why she was needed in Congress to bolster Obama’s agenda as president and said, “You have a chance to elect someone of enormous experience and accomplishment to Congress. Linda Stender has both the practical experience after 20 years of serving in local office and she’s right on the issues. We need all the knowledge and common sense we can get back in Congress.” Clinton noted the slim margin by which Stender lost her 2006 race and said, “We need you to go out and get those 3,000 votes she needs to win this.”

Linda Stender expressed her gratitude at the outpouring of support and said, “We know New Jersey families are eager for change. I was honored to have President Clinton here in New Jersey in support of my candidacy. President Clinton knows we need real change in this country to fight for middle-class families and expand access to the American Dream for everyone once again. On November 4, we have a fantastic opportunity here in the 7th District to finally gain a new direction from the past eight years of failure under George Bush and Republicans in Washington. I look forward to serving in Congress under President Obama and working to fix our ruined economy, providing every American access to affordable healthcare, achieving energy independence and finally bringing our troops home from Iraq safely, honorably and soon.”
