Stender pledges to keep promise to our seniors

FANWOOD – Today, Linda Stender vowed to continue fighting for our nation’s seniors, voicing her strong opposition to the Bush Administration’s threatened cuts to Medicare and her commitment to protecting Social Security for the long term.
Stender was joined by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), a chief deputy whip in the US House and Co-Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Red to Blue program. Stender was in the first wave of Red to Blue endorsed candidates this cycle.
“With our current struggling economy, reforms to Medicare and Medicaid are an essential part of making ends meet,” said Stender, candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th District. “No American should have to make a choice between filling a prescription or filling up a tank of gas. In Congress, I’ll work to reform our healthcare system so we can guarantee access to quality, affordable coverage for every American. I’ll bring real change to Washington, and stand up for our seniors who demand and deserve real solutions to our healthcare crisis.”
Stender, who serves on the New Jersey Assembly’s Health and Senior Services Committee, also reaffirmed her commitment to fighting for the professional men and women who provide healthcare services. Current Bush Administration-backed efforts would result in a 10 percent payment cut to physicians.
“In Washington, I’ll fight for our seniors and for the men and women who provide their care,” Stender added. “I’m committed to finding solutions to our healthcare crisis that bring relief to our healthcare providers as well, through legislation that doesn’t undercut physicians’ payments and push physicians into other specialties or medical fields. It’s about time the 7th District had a representative in Washington who looks out for our interests and does what’s right.”
Stender and Wasserman Schultz met with healthcare professionals and toured The Chelsea, an assisted living facility for seniors in Fanwood.
