SCOTCH PLAINS – Five years ago today, President Bush triumphantly declared “mission accomplished,” claiming major combat operations in Iraq had ended. Since that pronouncement, almost 4,000 American troops have lost their lives and another 30,000 have been wounded in action. Five years later, it is time our nation comes together to bring our troops home and demand timetables for withdrawal within a year from a war that never should have been waged.

FANWOOD – Today, Linda Stender vowed to continue fighting for our nation’s seniors, voicing her strong opposition to the Bush Administration’s threatened cuts to Medicare and her commitment to protecting Social Security for the long term.
Stender was joined by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), a chief deputy whip in the US House and Co-Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Red to Blue program. Stender was in the first wave of Red to Blue endorsed candidates this cycle.

The job may pay less than $170,000, but the political war chests of the 7th Congressional District candidates who want the job have now crossed the $2 million mark.
According to campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-Union), who spent nearly $2 million two years ago in her quest for the congressional seat, has already amassed $1.06 million.

As of March 31, Stender had $840,000 cash on hand.
