Ensuring Real, Lasting Energy Independence

Linda believes we need a real, sustainable national energy policy that keeps American families safe, and creates a cleaner, greener world for our children and grandchildren. We must decrease gas prices and halt global warming, through investments in renewable energy and ending our dangerous dependence on foreign oil.

Gas prices today are almost $2 more per gallon then when President Bush first took office, and New Jersey families are struggling. The average American family is spending $4,000 a year on fuel costs. Meanwhile, as we continue to pay $4 a gallon at the pump, Big Oil companies rake in record profits and benefit from Republican-sponsored tax breaks.

Linda believes we must lower energy costs to help families and small businesses, and supports temporarily halting new shipments to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. She supports tax incentives for hybrid vehicles, as well as for solar, wind and geothermal energy sources. Linda believes we must raise fuel efficiency standards, and would fight for investments in green technologies, which will create thousands of new jobs for working families. Through increased research and development of these new technologies, we can wean ourselves from foreign oil and make America energy independent.

Linda Stender has a real record of fighting for environmental protections. In the state Assembly, she wrote the New Jersey Global Warming Response Act - creating the nation's strictest reduction standards to curb global warming emissions. Unlike other state measures that mandate reductions by 2020, this groundbreaking legislation requires an 80% reduction of global warming emission levels by 2050. Experts consider such limits necessary to avoid the worst impacts of global warming.
